McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Support
OVERVIEW
The McKinney Vento Act is a federal law that provides important educational rights and services to PreK-12 children and youth experiencing homelessness.
It ensures that children and youth experiencing homelessness can remain in their school of origin for the duration of the time of homelessness until the end of an academic year, or until permanent housing is obtained.
Homelessness includes living outdoors, in a shelter, hotel/motel, or doubled-up with family.
Regardless of where you are forced to live, no child’s potential will be limited by their circumstances, and stability, safety, and opportunity belong to every student.
WHY SHOULD I REPORT THIS?
Here at PHCSE it is important that all students have equitable access to their education and extracurricular activities regardless of their living situation.
In reporting these circumstances it allows PHCSE to partner with you in ensuring the education needs of your student(s) are met or fulfilled.
Step 1
Report to the PHCSE McKinney Vento Liaison
If such an event happens to your family please contact Ms. Burton our school counselor to report.
Step 2
Report any needs that you may have for your student
If your student(s) are in need of meals, school uniforms, school supplies, and transportation,
WE CAN HELP!
Step 3
Report updated information to school
We will need the temporary address you are staying at, and once you receive permanent housing we will need the new address to activate new transportation if needed.
