Mission

The Penn Hills Charter School of Entrepreneurship School Health Program fosters the growth, development and academic achievement of students by promoting good nutrition, health and wellness in a safe and supportive environment.

We are committed to meeting the healthcare needs of individual students, and through the collaboration with public and private agencies, and healthcare professionals, we advocate for students, their families, and the school community. Our school participates in the Healthier Generation’s Healthy Schools Program, an evidence-based program that fosters environments where youth are empowered to make healthier lifestyle choices. We believe that healthy kids are successful students.

School Health Program

The Certified School Nurse provides direct care including the assessment and treatment of injuries and acute illnesses for all students, and long term management of students with special health care needs. He/she acts as liaison between the school and public and private healthcare providers. Physical and emotional safety of the school community is maintained by monitoring immunizations, ensuring appropriate exclusion for infectious illnesses, and reporting communicable diseases as required by law.

The School Nurse also conducts  state mandated health screening and referrals for health screens which include vision (Grades: K-8), hearing (Grades:K.1.2.3.7), height/weight/BMI (Grades: K-8), and scoliosis (Grades:6,7). In addition, the school provides free physical and dental examinations in specific grades where these examinations are required by the state of Pennsylvania.

Food Services

PHCSE is a member of the National School Lunch Program, Child and Adult Food Care Program, Summer Food Service Program, Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, and Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. All meals (breakfast, lunch, supper, and snacks) are FREE.

PHCSE is committed to ensuring that our students and families have access to the resources they need year round. Food and health care are critical building blocks that fuel a child’s growth and development.  If you’re struggling to make ends meet, or know someone who could use a little help, there are resources available. Together we can eliminate the growing hunger and health care gaps across Pennsylvania’s communities.
